  • Consider the techniques in the application of paint you used in your acrylic paintings. Layering MANY layers versus one flat color. Thin layers upon layers or one solid thick color. Smooth and flat versus textured. What does this visually do for you, the painter? What does it do visually for the audience?

Reflection / Evaluation: As some of you will be SEARCHING for ideas, others may be Researching for them (appropriation and making it your own). What is one struggle you are having in the idea of the portrait so that it is NOT JUST a mug shot, but rather an investigation of the PERSON – a portrait with MEANING?
