The 2013 – 14 Drawing Class from Waterford Union High School has been working on COMMUNITY as their final major artwork for the 2013-14 school year. Beginning with a self-exploration behind the American Regionalists (1930 – 1935 Midwestern Art Movement) the students chose an artist to research and base their own work on. From the research, the artists took two days to explore the downtown area of Waterford as well as one of the neighboring subdivisions and made preliminary drawings as well as photographs.Once back in the studio, the artists got to work creating their vision of what community was to them and how they fit into that space. Just like the American Regionalists worked to document and comment on their Midwestern communities, our young artists worked to do the same.
