Reflection: Review with neighbors the relationships of the colors on the color wheel? When you look in your closet… what COLORS do you think you have the most of hanging? Why do you think that you have more of that color than others? Will these colors be in the portrait?

Is this a sign of things to come for me this weekend? I hope not!

Welcome to the 2016 WAEA Planning Retreat! Part of my responsibilities, and pleasure, is to help plan how the WAEA moves forward. Well, after a long and difficult week – not anything any of my students were part of – they are part of the reason I got through the week (well… there was that one moment…) it is good to be here in Mineral Point.

WAEA Mission Statement 
The mission of the Wisconsin Art Education Association is to promote excellence in visual art and design education for all students by: 

  •  Providing professional growth opportunities for visual art and design teachers.
  • Showcasing student talents and abilities supporting art and design as academic core disciplines.
  • Communicating with other art and design organizations.
  • Offering lifelong learning opportunities acting on vital art and design education issues.

How are we going to continue to do all of this? Another solid question.

WAEA Vision Statement
In the decade ahead, we envision:

  • An organization that lives out the values expressed in our Mission Statement, seeking and valuing contributions from each member most art educators in the state of Wisconsin will be WAEA members.
  • Members for whom the art of teaching is the first priority.
  • An organization which is diverse culturally, ethnically and economically.
  • Programs aimed at developing the whole person and promoting creative, intellectual and emotional growth.
  • New partnerships with arts organizations, institutions and businesses.
  • Fiscal resources which keep the organization financially strong.
  • WAEA will sponsor travel and trips in the United States and abroad.
  • The Visual Arts Classic will become a national model.

It is my honor and pleasure to be here to serve the young artists across not only SE WI, WI as a whole, but also all the young artists who have found something in them that they need to express through a visual means – country and worldwide.

Goals:

  • Communication and Collaboration – Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and to the learning of others.
  • What is successful in your artwork? What is the color scheme you are using? Share this with your neighbor.
    • NEXT WEEK we are going to 1) make photographs of the work we have RIGHT NOW and 2) go to the COMPUTER LAB (Laptops). Fill out the Google Form http://goo.gl/forms/3q3rPakz8m and then 3) insert images from today into the GOOGLE DOCUMENT.

Reflection: How will the focus of the written critique and the use of the GOOGLE FORM help you in the critiquing of your works oraly?

Studio Art 360: COLOR and YOU!

Goals:

  • 3.1P: Apply relevant criteria from traditional and contemporary cultural contexts to examine, reflect on, and plan revisions for works of art and design in progress.
  • What do you mix to get a TINT? What do you mix to get a SHADE? What do you mix to get a TONE?

Reflection:  Review with neighbors the relationships of the colors on the color wheel? When you look in your closet… what COLORS do you think you have the most of hanging? Why do you think that you have more of that color than others? Assignment – FOR MONDAY – REPEAT THE ASSIGNMENT from above – HAVE TO HAVE IT on Monday!

ASSIGNMENT FOR MONDAY – Bring in a FEW FULL FACE SELFIES – Black and White or Color – OR EMAIL them to me… This is the UPCOMING ASSIGNMENT Requirement…

  • RESOLUTION of the figure drawing is today. What are three strengths that are happening in your drawing? How are you going to build on those strengths and develop the final drawing?
