Logo Design in Dig. Art, 3 Assignments in Foundations (WHAT?), and canvas building in Painting

Intro to Painting – Canvas Building and the Self Portrait from Art History!

You have been given dimensions and instructions on how to build a canvas. This is a FIRST PRIORITY and the chit chat around the studio CANNOT be a part of the day. SO MUCH TO DO and SO MUCH TO PLAN! What are you working from as inspiration and what are you doing with your photography that is going to make this a successful work?

Art Foundations – Portrait, Glazing, Metals… Three things this week alone. Are you READY?

Here we are… three things to think about! Where are you in the Basquiat inspired portrait? Neo-Expressionism and contemporary art (even though he has passed away – he is still considered contemporary? It’s still pretty close to out time).

Intro to Digital Art and Photography – I’m leaving this post alone… we are moving forward from here.

We will be inserting the illustrations into the Adobe InDesign pages as we move forward this week. Let’s work together to get things done and successful as a collaborative team!

LOGO DESIGN and the UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT LOGOS REALLY ARE! Can you point out the Symbols? The Word/LetterMarks, the Combination Marks?

Ideas for Logos TODAY and THIS TOO!

Ms. K is running the show for a LOT of this week. SO… be aware of your studio habits and the work you are making.

Intro to Painting – (2 final Crits) Canvas Building!

We are getting into working and building for ourselves. Pay close attention to the process that we are going through and make sure that you are being safe and aware of your fingers and eyes all the time!

Here is the same image as last week and we will be headed in the same direction.

Art Foundations – What music are you loving? How is the NEO-Expressionism treating you today?

WATERCOLOR TECHNIQUES are HERE!

Color Schemes are on the horizon and when you are aware of them you can make stronger choices in how you use colors in your artwork. BE AWARE of the relationships in your work and in your life…

Intro to Digital Art and Photography – The book is done and we are going to assess ourselves and READ the book together. Then… Logo Design coming up next – ILLUSTRATOR – and it is a paying gig!

We will be inserting the illustrations into the Adobe InDesign pages as we move forward this week. Let’s work together to get things done and successful as a collaborative team!

LOGO DESIGN and the UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT LOGOS REALLY ARE!

Ideas for Logos TODAY and THIS TOO!

Paul Rand – World Class Logo Designer! Who is TODAY’S world class logo designer?

This is going to FEEL like a short week… Monday is the end of last week and we have 2 days of each group – and Mr. Korb is stepping back in Art Foundations! Go Ms. K!

Intro to Painting – Crit and Canvas Building!

What did you work on to develop the skills to use acrylic paints? What are your STRONGEST techniques and what techniques do you want to CONTINUE TO DEVELOP THE SKILLS in? ALWAYS add the WHY or BECAUSE!

Art Foundations -Color Schemes and Watercolors are coming up next. As is Music and Neo-Expressionism!

What have you learned about the use of SPACE in a composition? Always think about that use of the space and what you do with it as an artist. The negative space is as important as the positive space – and BASQUIAT knew all about that.

    WATERCOLOR TECHNIQUES are HERE!

I do a LOVELY job of explaining the techniques – I wonder if I still have those paintings?

SHORT week is here. What are you doing with all 3 illustrations? How is it coming along?

Hard to believe we are in WEEK 3 of the 2nd Quarter. What have you accomplished in your art making experience?

Intro to Painting – ACRYLIC PAINTING TECHNIQUES

We begin the process of learning about acrylic painting techniques! The composition is ALL YOURS from one of the 6 Genres below.

        Sonia Delaunay
        Electric Prisms 1913

Orphism (1912–13): Coined by the French poet and art critic Guillaume Apollinaire. The name comes from the musician Orpheus in ancient Greek myths, as Apollinaire thought that painting should be like music. Main artists Robert Delaunay and Sonia Delaunay also used the term simultanism to describe their work of this period.

HERE is the assignment with the video links included to help you along the way. What is your composition? Let’s see the planning stages this week!

Art Foundations – STILL LIFE in Pencil

We are STILL WORKING out the ideas of the still life. Watercolors are coming up next.

What are you doing with the SPACE? What are you doing with the VALUES? What are you doing with the MARK-MAKING?

Intro to Digital Art and Photography – Collaboration and the ABC’s

THUMBNAILS and ROUGH DRAWINGS should be in your RUBRIC so you can see them and account for them. How is that?

LAST week… What WERE your GOALS – be SMART about it! What are your goals for the UPCOMING week?

Work week is coming up – what are you doing with all 3 illustrations? How is it coming along?

Welcome to WEEK 2 of 2nd Quarter and ALSO Welcome to FAHS Ms. K! We are looking forward to working with you this quarter!

Art Foundations – STILL LIFE in Pencil

We begin to sketch out the still life and then GLAZING! WOO HOO! Last week we looked at Stephanie Shih’s ceramics works and… perfect timing! We are going to break from values and get into the glazes.

            • 3 coats
            • Keep it a 1/4 off of the base
            • DO NOT GLAZE THE BOTTOM!
            • Take your time
            • These colors are absolutely MIXABLE!
            • 3 COATS! (Did I mention that?)

Intro to Digital Art and Photography – Collaboration and the ABC’s

THUMBNAILS and ROUGH DRAWINGS should be being worked out and now we are UP TO ILLUSTRATOR. Remember that we are going to be working together on this and you will be touching base with your team frequently.

Richard Scarry’s Cars and Trucks (please enjoy the link to their Amazon Page) definitely demonstrates one VERY successful approach to the ideas of educating our little kids on the ABC’s! How are you doing?

This week… What are your GOALS – be SMART about it!

            • Specific
            • Measurable
            • Attainable
            • Reasonable
            • Timely

We will see in 3 blocks where we are at with our MID-CRIT! Small group conversations, then split up into your other small group for continued conversation. 20 minutes!

TODAY! Let’s set up 1/8″ bleeds.

Happy 12th Birthday ArtWithKorb! Welcome also to 2nd Quarter! This is a fast year!

Intro to Painting – Book Binding and ACRYLIC PAINTINGS!

Binding up the books and walking away with a new sketchbook! This is a life lesson and SOME of you will be using this skill, perhaps, again.

Think about the type of art that you particularly enjoy making and looking at. The upcoming acrylic painting will require you to come up with your own ideas and will be based on one of these genres:

Art Foundations – Space, Value, Mark Making, and our OWN STILL LIFE!

Stephanie Shih’s still life… objects like this are absolutely acceptable for your still life… however… we are drawing ours, she sculpted hers.

What skills have you picked up and put into your drawing toolbox since the beginning of this project? Begin to think about the images and the objects that you are going to be bringing in and using for the assignment. Remember that if you bring in personal objects. The more you can make it about you the more you might invest in the work – it will be more personal.

Stephanie H. Shih – Ceramics artist specializing in the still life

Intro to Digital Art and Photography – Collaboration and the ABC’s

By Sugar Snap Studio – perhaps a collaborative effort? Or perhaps the work of Jessie Ford!

You are working on a process that requires us all to be working towards the same success. The steps are as follow this week: THUMBNAILS, ROUGH DRAWINGS, and then UP TO ILLUSTRATOR. Remember that we are going to be working together on this and you will be touching base with your team frequently.

End of the Quarter – Get your works done. Let’s learn more art stuff too!

Intro to Painting – Plein Air painting

            https://vasari21.com/plein-air-painting-today/

            “Plein Air” Painting Lesson HERE

CRITIQUE this week. That is all – Books too!

Art Foundations – Value and Form

Value drawings and the idea of negative space as well. This is all going to lead to a still life drawing. Be ready.

            • Negative Space
            • Shading Forms
            • Drawing Forms
            • Compositions in a Still Life

Intro to Digital Art and Photography – Adobe Illustrator, Art History, and Architecture

This week we will be looking at Illustrator and continuing to learn how to use it. REAL LIFE SIMPLE EXAMPLE… T-Shirt Art and Camera Ready Designs. This is a REAL LIFE EXAMPLE of a hand drawn image translated up to an illustrator design and them put into the real world.

Hilma Af Klint and Paintings for the Future.

Coming Up… Illustrator and Literature! Let’s see what we can do with this! Coming Soon!

New Space – New Arrangement – New Attitudes – NEW WORKS!

Intro to Painting – Book Making and the spirit of Plein Air painting

            “Plein Air” Painting Lesson HERE

Book Binding this week (to add a change of pace to the painting process) and then back to the painting.

We will have the options of making an accordion book or a Japanese Stab Bound Book. There are many more ways to do this, and if you want to explore your own approach – GO FOR IT – but this is what we are doing in studio.

ALSO – you have ONE MORE WATERCOLOR LANDSCAPE to create. IF YOU WANT TO GO OUTSIDE AND PAINT… I am all for that. Use the studio time to explore a small part of the campus and work really “PLEIN AIR” – just bring a coat.

Art Foundations – Space, Perspective, and the Still Life

We have a lot of ground to cover and a lot of ideas to conquer. This is going to be a challenge and I look forward to seeing the skills you develop AND the compositions you do to. Perspective will include a creature that you can use from our bucket of toys OR one that you find out there in the interweb…

            • Negative Space
            • Shading Forms
            • Drawing Forms
            • Compositions in a Still Life

Intro to Digital Art and Photography – Adobe Illustrator, Art History, and Architecture

Hilma Af Klint and Paintings for the Future.

You are going to make your own Artworks for the Future by begining with hers and then moving into a design of your own geometric idea based on her work. Sketches, watercolors, colored pencil, photographs and then into illustrator SO YOU CAN LEARN. Be patient with changes to the lesson plans and be willing to RESEARCH and DRAW and PAINT in Geometric Fashions – NON-OBJECTIVE!

Let’s rethink how we move forward. Studio Habits are in need of attention folks!

Intro to Painting – Book Making! New to you! (Challenging as well.)

              “Plein Air” Painting Lesson HERE

Book Binding this week (to add a change of pace to the painting process) and then back to the painting.

This is a FUN BOOK – and we will do this BUT… we are also going to build a more challenging book that we can then add our own art into. Pay attention to the process and understand how this all works.

Art Foundations – Perspective and Shading – Mark Making.

How well do you know PERSPECTIVE? We are going to get into this BIG this week! Then onto the still life.
Do you see the similarities in Disney’s “Toy Story” and Stanly Kubric’s “The Shining?” It’s all perspective!

Using one or two point perspective as well as shading, hatching and cross hatching, scumbling, and stippling… draw out your best cube or cubes – 20 minutes to see what you can do. Then we learn and practice.

Intro to Digital Art and Photography – Logos are coming up!

What logos are you drawn to? What is the difference in the logos you see here. Let’s look at some of the most iconic logos of all time!

Logo Search HERE (and in the Google Classroom)

We are going to explore the ideas of the logo, the properties of a logo, and then we are going to design one. There are a number of artists we are going to look at so… be aware of your designs and PLANNING!
