      • LISTEN TO EACH PERSON AS THEY GO THROUGH THEIR OWN WORK.
      • OFFER CRITIQUE WHEN THE TIME COMES – AFTER you have listened to their descriptions of their work.
    • When YOU talk about YOUR work…
      • What is the work of LITERATURE that you are using?
      • WHY are you using that work of literature?
      • WHAT from that literature are you trying to express in the illustration?
      • What PROGRAM are you using?
      • What are the CHALLENGES that you are having with the work of art?
      • What are your SUCCESSES?
      • What else can you say about your work?
  • Also – Letโ€™s review the TALKING about the work as a group and then move on. EVERYONE will become better at the talking part of this… I promise it wonโ€™t we as difficult as some of you have been struggling worth.

    • 2) I have the SELF-ASSESSMENT rubric to add my thoughts to.

  • G: Accomplishments? Are you on track to have the work done in 2 more full studio times? We are going to talk about the process of the critique next time – this is a skill that you are in need of. Some are stronger than others and we are all going to work on the process of talking about the work you are creating.

This is to limit the numbers that you need to choose from – simplification. Talk to me if you are having any issues.
  • This research id NOW DUE, as well as your photographs, on FRIDAY. If you need to talk to me – TALK TO ME!
  • G: How are you doing with the research today? What do you need to do in order to be ready on Friday. The research is important BECAUSE you do not have as wide an understanding OR visual knowledge of art history and contemporary works – yet. 5 works from 3 of the artists… details. Also – make sure you have your photos made.

  • G: 1.2P: Shape an artistic investigation of an aspect of present-day life using a contemporary practice of art or design.
  • A: We have completed one solid metals work… ready to move forward? The ideas of the etching, jump rings, rivet… they are all a part of your toolboxes now. As you planned the ideas out for the AVANT GARDE metals work… what are they? Explain to your neighbor and let them explain to you the process, the design, and the ideas you have developed in the work. Write out, in your handbook or on a sticky note the feedback that you get from your partner.
  • G: What are your plans for next time? What do you need to do between now and then to make sure you are fully ready to g0?  Also… most importantly, what are you going to do to make it AUTHENTICALLY YOURS?

Digital Art: Literature Time – Are You READY!

Planning for your Illustrations? You are drawing as big or slightly bigger than the final production size.

  • G: 1.2Ac: Choose from a range of materials and methods of traditional and contemporary artistic practices to plan works of art and design.
  • A: How are you moving forward with the beginning of the illustration? Letโ€™s take a few minutes to talk with your BFF in here and explain the idea behind your work, the progress you have made SO far, and the directions you are going to be making this week.
    • What is ONE GOAL for today?
    • TAKE NOTE! – You CANNOT use an image of someone else’s without making HUGE changes to it so that it is now your image and no longer theirs.
  • G: Looking at the Artist Habits of Mind today, which of them are you finding that you are utilizing and please explain how. This is a time to reflect. One thing to keep in mind is the BIG PICTURE! It is harder to see the big picture when you are looking at a digital screen that is zoomed in close versus a canvas or sheet of paper as a picture plane.

Intro To Painting: Friday! Donโ€™t forget to bring FOOD STUFF for the CRIT.

  • G: 2.1Ac: Through experimentation, practice, and persistence, demonstrate acquisition of skills and knowledge in a chosen art form.
  • A: Acrylic Painting Techniques. LAST DAY. What struggles / success have you have with the materials in the of Acrylics? Please be specific in the writing of your thoughts. (HANDBOOK PLEASE).
  • Today we are assembling the final bits and pieces of the work. Next time we are going to critique the final abstraction painting and the 3 still life paintings that we have been working on. Think about all of the various skills that we worked through. What, from the MANY techniques that we worked through, are you most comfortable with? What of the techniques did you choose to not work with as much? Me? I am not a big fan of the additive… I appreciate it, bit I am not the biggest fan of it.
  • G: What have you got to do for next time? What are the aspects of the 4 paintings that you are going to need to resolve, continue to work with in order to be finished for the critique/

#End of the Week, what are the plans in the #Studio?

โ€œNobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, itโ€™s just not that good…โ€ Ira Glass

How did things go last time in the process of the DESIGN and BEGINNING of the illustration? MAKE SURE YOU ARE INVESTED in this work. OFTEN a book illustrator has ZERO investment in the book – one doesnโ€™t have to like or dislike the story – but one does have to be able to be invested in the making of a successful image. Ok?

52 Every color has an opposite, called a complement. Complementary colors sit opposite one another in the color wheel. Additionally, all colors are affected by the presence of other colors. Even the smallest presence of a complement will enhance the intensity of a color when it is present in the same visual field. The presence of red, for instance, will cause the retina to โ€œseekโ€ green in the other colors present, hereby enhancing all parts of the green spectrum. If you wish to intensify a color in a composition, place some of its complement nearby. This applies to all media. The effective use of color is one of the greatest tools at an artistโ€™s disposal. Color is coming up in the studio for Painting and Art Foundations – Are you ready?

Art Foundations: Continue to work in the Ceramics World ONE MORE DAY

  • G: 7.1P: Hypothesize ways in which art influences perception and understanding of human experiences.
  • A: What are three textures / techniques ย you are using to make your work more interesting and successful as you work today to RESOLVE your sculpture / artwork? ALSO – this is a classroom management thing – as we work, it is important to talk and converse with one another but… keep the conversation to the table you are at. It gets WAY too loud in the studio when the conversation happens across the room. If that continues in the studio then we have to go to silent studio until the volumes get lower.
  • G: What techniques are REALLY important to be using to make sure any ADDITIVE clay really HOLD TIGHT to the clay you are adding it to? What ALSO do you need to do to make sure your work doesn’t dry out before the next time we meet?

  • G: 1.1Ac: Individually or collaboratively formulate new creative problems based on studentโ€™s existing artwork.
  • A: Last day to work on the self-portraits. We begin last time with a mid critique. In the HANDBOOKS (or sticky notes) what were three things that you took away from the mid crit that you INSTANTLY put to use in the continuation of the process? This is an illustration that you are creating – the final portrait will not belong in the final image. At the end of the period – we will submit through Google Classroom and then do a self – assessment. Think about the tools that you were able to learn and use that were NEW to you and that were SIMILAR from Adobe Illustrator.
  • G: When you come in next time you need to have 5 thumbnails AND the work of โ€œLiteratureโ€ with you. If you DO NOT HAVE SOMETHING WITH YOU, I will supply you with a work from your English Class (which is fine if youโ€™d like by the way, you are reading it in class). BRING pencils and your sketchbook along with the ideas that you have come up with. What are some of the aspects of the story that you really enjoyed? How are you planning the ideas for the illustration? This will not be a just โ€œwing itโ€ process. Beginning of the FIRST DAY OF WORK on ILLUSTRATION we will see the last 5 minutes of WORK OF ART – TV Show – Season 1 – Episode 3 – Judge a Book by itโ€™s Cover
