Art Foundations: Line and Pattern

  • G: 2.1P: Engage in making a work of art or design without having a preconceived plan.
  • A: What is a balance? What is a pattern? What patterns and balance are you drawn to? What were your favorite designs from last times work with Sol LeWitt? Page 4 in the Handbook… Let’s walk through some thoughts.
  • G: What challenges did you have in the ideas of drawing out a pattern – repeat the simple image over and over and over? Page 8 in the handbook – Letโ€™s answer the questions and then… remember to get yourself a sketchbook.

Painting: Colors and Palettes

  • G: 2.1Ac: Through experimentation, practice, and persistence, demonstrate acquisition of skills and knowledge in a chosen art form.
  • A: What challenges did you have with the watercolors when it came to TECHNIQUES we went through? What techniques are you hoping to become better at today? We are GOING OUTSIDE – but we are NOT PAINTING EXACTLY WHAT WE SEE.
  • G: What 2 things did you get done today that helped you move the ideas of observational painting? Be VERY specific in the tasks you accomplished. Develop the ideas of painting outside and consider the ideas and feelings about yourself and surroundings. PLEASE be aware of us BEING outside and NOT the idea of being with your friends and technology. These paintings are going to be a bound book. What are 5 thoughts you have about the experience from today? We will be writing this into the book – so OPEN YOUR SKETCHBOOK and make a note of that. Revision of the Studio Art Rubrics – NVAS Specific! I am thrilled!

WELCOME to the newest series of rubrics that my all of my studio classes for the 2019 – 2020 school year. I am excited that they have been revised, simplified (3/4 of the words have been removed – or thereabouts) and that the National Visual Arts Standards have been specifically identified. One specific thing about the rubrics that I stand behind is that they are the same across the board – all artworks get the same rubric (based on level of course of course). I realize that this is exciting to me and a very small audience, but I am really happy to get to work with the artists and create a really strong body of work with each and every one of them.

I know that this is a level of excitement that few people will share with me, but, in order to help the artists develop a strong set of self-reflection and self-evaluation skills and to also create a really strong set of artworks – the following rubrics are here for your perusal. Enjoy.
