Introduction to Painting: Abstraction and Representational Art
G: 1.2Ac: Choose from a range of materials and methods of traditional and contemporary artistic practices to plan works of art and design.
A: When we talk about ABSTRACTION, we can look at the ideas of OBJECTIVE and NON – OBJECTIVE abstraction. Non – Objective os when we have ZERO reference to anything real or observed. In most of the works you have created thus far, the ideas are NON-OBJECTIVE. On the other hand there is abstraction based on observable things. Now… we are going to be dealing with a new style of painting (and you are going to be developing this over Thanksgiving break) and that is creating a work that is REPRESENTATIONAL. You will be creating a work of art that is based on the ideas of looking at and creating a work of art that is based on your observational skills. When it comes to observational imagery… observational art… what images are you drawn to?
G: Know that you are going to need to be building the NEW CANVASES LONG BEFORE THE NEXT painting time begins. This week? When we come back. Before you are done with the abstraction.
G: 1.2Ac: Choose from a range of materials and methods of traditional and contemporary artistic practices to plan works of art and design.
A: Today is a day of EDITING the images that you have begun the process of gathering your images for your series. What are the skills that you have learned in the process of our introduction to Photoshop? What are you planning on doing today?
G: What do you plan on doing to finish gathering your images over break?
#51: Learn the basic principles of color. There are three primary colors: red, blue, and yellow. They are the building blocks of all other colors. The secondary colors are violet (blue and red), green (blue and yellow), and orange (red and yellow). They are composed by the equal mixture of two primaries. All other colors are referred to as tertiary, because they are mixtures of a primary and a secondary color. Kit White 101 Things to Learn in Art School

TAKE YOUR SKETCHBOOK and MAKE NOTES about what you are working to communicate or emphasize in the work. Look at the setting of your camera and make literal note of what setting you are using. i.e.: I am making this photograph of my fish, Yves Klein, to demonstrate the composition of No Horizon, Frame Within a Frame, and Rule of Thirds. The principle is Balance (asymmetry) as the fish and bowl are pushed hard to one side of the picture plane. My Element is Space as I am creating a large negative space with the counter top and floor and positive space with the fish and bowl.
