What’s been happening? It has been a long while since the last post. How have you been? Staying safe? Staying sane? Making art?
We’ve been working on ENGAGEMENT in the studio. Our classes have been a little low in numbers, and the technology has gotten the best of me. TIP – if you are using a camera as a demonstration tool, log into ZOOM first with the computer or you may miss the kids in the waiting room (so sorry folks… I hope you watched my video of 5B Art Foundations class from Tuesday. [Ok… as of this post 1 person has and that might have been me]).
In the end, it is the engagement of oneself in their education that is important. Being in the studio is important and being engaged in one’s learning is to. If you’ve gotten this far I am probably preaching to the choir – and those at this point in world history are pretty small – except maybe the ZOOM choirs, they are doing fine.
I hope you are safe and well. Join us for class – check in with your Google Classroom and click the link. Friday we are meeting with Milwaukee Artist Nicole Shaver in our weekly Friday Art Lunch Bunch. Hope you can join us.
Frank
P.S. If you want to check out some masterful blending techniques… here’s how to blend colors with your’s truly.
Sit back and enjoy the FIRST, the INAUGURAL Friday Art Lunch Bunch gathering with Ted Orland. Ted is a photographer based out of California with a wealth of knowledge and experience. A great conversation about the ideas of ISOLATION and all we are coping with. Sit back, grab your lunch, and join us in the recording of Friday Art Lunch Lunch with Ted Orland. Next week – Brett Roberts ceramicist.
Art Foundations: Color Schemes!
Birk and the Color Wheel
Introduction to COLOR SCHEMES and review HANDOUTS. This is ALL REVIEW from some point in life.
Explanation of DIGITAL ART assignment
1 Strong photograph of your own Color Wheel using Objects in your home.
3 photographs of COLOR SCHEMES you find naturally in life. You can choose from ANY of the color schemes we talked about or that are on the page HERE.
Intro to Drawing: Positive and Negative Space
Introduction to Positive Space and Negative Space. Letโs talk about the video to watch below and then go over the process with REAL OBJECTS and PHOTOGRAPHS.
A. Gather up a wonderfully interesting branch from the GROUND – DO NOT PICK IT OFF OF A TREE.
Set it against a white or solid colored surface.
Look at the NEGATIVE SPACE – not the branches themselves but the space between the branches.
DRAW THE SPACE BETWEEN THE BRANCHES.
B. Make a photograph looking up into a tree with bare branches.
REPEAT the process by using the photograph as your reference material.
REPEAT the drawing process two more times – once with branches, once with a photograph. AT LEAST 4 well observed drawings.
UPLOAD to the NEW Google Slide and explain the challenges that you had and the successes as well.
Advanced Digital Art and Photography: What is it to be QUARANTINED?
Carry Out – Nope CURB SIDE – Put that mask on properly!
Introduction to Photography and the use of the Elements and Principles as well as how to compose a strong Photograph
Explanation of DIGITAL ART assignment
3 Strong Photographs that speak to what it is to be YOU during this time of isolation / quarantine / 6 feet apart.
A brief explanation of the CONCEPT of your work in the slide show.
UPLOAD to the NEW Google Slide and explain the concept that you have in your photographs.
Edward Hopper and his works. The loneliness that his works have illustrated and depicted. Sometimes they are people in rooms together but they are generally apart.
Advanced Painting: Fauvism or YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN!
Sketches for NEXT painting – FAUVISM Part II – OR – Your own painting based on the style or technique YOU ARE INTERESTED IN
NOTE – Sometimes it is easier for a young (or old) artist to be successful when they are given a specific direction to travel with their work. If following my instructions helps you succeed – use them. If you choose to follow your own pathโฆ Great!
Please PLAN before you move into the painting. This weekโs assignment will be the PLANNING stages – the sketches.
This doesn’t mean you canโt begin the final paintingโฆ it just means that the planning is the assignment to turn in.
Thanks for the following and staying on top of one’s own COVID-19 Quarantine. STAY AT HOME! While the posting seems to have died down QUITE A BIT over the past 3 weeks, know full well that the educating hasn’t. The initial intent of ArtWithKorb.com was to help share out ideas and resources to EVERYONE. It has done that as well as being a launching pad for all of the daily classes in the classroom. Well… we’re not there anymore.
As with EVERYONE we are all teaching out of our own homes and studios right now. I’ve switched all of the digital day to day to Google Classrrom – which stinks for the sharing of ideas. The time it takes to update… in the classroom it is all set, for the home studio, as you may or may not know, it takes a lot longer.
We’re still working out the bugs and getting people into the classroom. If you are in my classes make sure you are in the Google Classrooms to see buzz and the happenin’

Cindy Ingram and her team at Art Class Curator have enlisted many Art Educators to present at a FREE online un-Conference. We’ve all put in a lot of work… but with a lot of passion, so it’s been amazing to be part of it. Here are just some of the faces you will see if you join us for the un-conference…
I am not sure what day I am presenting (it’s all prerecorded) but check back often to find out. There are over 45 educators sharing their experiences from all over the country. Sign up and join in!

Great plans for the Coronavirus School Closing HERE. We will look at things when you get back. Keep working on the Oil Paintings so your paints don’t dry up. ALSO – Check your Google Classroom for TOMORROWS NON REQUIRED CONVERSATION.
Introduction to drawing and printmaking: GREAT assignments planned (now for when you get back). Take a look at William Kentridge and then talk about where we are going while you are away. School Closing Assignment HERE for when we get back now.
Advanced Digital Art and Photography: We are going to have to backtrack and get caught up… Check out the COOL assignments I HAD planned below. School Closing Assignment HERE we will pick this up when we get back. Make photographs of your entire DAY! 24 hours of your days away from school.
