Art Foundations: Evaluate your PBIS Posters, Introduce Chapter 1 – What is Art, Make Art Using LINE!

  1. (1.4) Define the visual challenges using (1.4.1) analysis of your PBIS Poster (breaking up the artwork / subject matter to basic elements – LINE)
  2. (2.1) form criticism about your PBIS Poster regarding how it works to communicate 2.1.3 communal ideas

How were you able to grade your own work? Was it difficult to give yourself “fair” grades and evaluations? Were you too easy on yourself, too hard on yourself, or just right about your grade? What made you grade yourself one way or the other?

Nam June Paik uses materials that YOU may not consider “fine art materials.” What might you consider trying to use as a material for a work if you have the opportunity to use ANYTHING? Why? What sort of message might you try and communicate with that material? What do you think Paik is trying to communicate with these materials?

End of Class: What do you plan on taking home this weekend to get ahead of the challenge next week will have for you? Share what you have planned regarding your next concentration with a classmate and get two bits of advice / critique from them… offer the same back… respond to the thoughts in your sketchbook next to the drawings.

Even if our GOALS are the same or similar… it is still important for you to consider and deal with so that you are processing the information and think about how you are using it during the period and artwork.

Another clever thought about art… Do you know what “product” Andy Warhol recreated (hundreds of times) that helped to make him famous? He was a POP artist in the 1960’s. You PROBABLY have some of these in your cupboard at home (not the Warhol versions but the kind you would find in the grocery store). (I love Andy Warhol’s work.)

What sort of problems did you encounter today? What questions came up? What solutions got used? How did you contend with working in a group? Share with your neighbor.

How are you going to be able to continue to build your body of work? What are you going to do to install a successful art exhibition?

NEW BREADTH WORK (Due: Monday, February 4, 2013): Begin by making a collage using newspaper and magazine pages to create a narrative landscape. Create this landscape while you are focusing on one specific elements and one specific principle of art. After the collage has been completed recreate it using any other medium(s) that you would like.

NEW CONCENTRATION WORK: (Due: Monday, February 4, 2013): Using your sketchbook – you will begin by developing 3 new ideas (Thumbnails) before you begin on the next work. The next bit of your concentration will need to be following the ideas you have established and you NEED to demonstrate the growth and evolution of your investigation.

What were the biggest impressions you had from the classmate’s works? What were the most difficult things you felt as you presented your work? Conversation between classmates about the 2 questions for your exam.

Goals:

  • To know how we, as teachers, currently use data proven methods described in “Classroom Instruction that Works.”
  • To be aware of and deliberately make use of the strategies presented in “Classroom Instruction that Works.”
  1. As we watch the video, think about the various student perspectives on learning and how those support / don’t support the research evidence that we’ve read about in the book.

  1. By using this Prezi Presentation, a brief summary of the 5 chapters we’ve covered, fill out your frame routines.
  2. How can we summarize points in light of how students  have commented on that particular mode of instruction.
  3. At certain points in the Prezi we can stop and have more discussion about our thoughts on the topics.
