Art Foundations: Grid our paper and finish our color wheels. If you are done with the color wheel and you finish the grid… make sure your sketchbook and LATE WORK are complete.

GOALS:

  1. Describe the creation of images and explain why they are of value.
  2. Work on Mathematical Ratios and Transferring images.

What COLOR SCHEMES are you struggling with understanding? Go through EACH of the color schemes with your neighbor and explain each one to one another. In your GOALS PAGES COMMENTS – write down your most challenging understanding of color schemes.

DRAWING: We are working with proportions and getting the drawing “picture plane” onto the photograph. Let’s get the drawing CAREFULLY up to the drawing paper. This paper is NOT CHEAP – it is a one sheet rule.

What part of the math was a challenge to you? How well were you able to read the ruler and figure out how to make a QUALITY picture plane? As you draw this up, make sure that you are making references to the RELATIONSHIPS of COMPOSITIONAL ELEMENTS. We are looking for good to great – NOT PERFECT.

What are the colors used? Piet Mondrian – De Stijl Artist!

Art Foundations: Continue on the color wheel AND learn about using a GRID to plan out an artwork.

GOALS:

  1. 1.4 Define color schemes and value scales using analysis (what are the colors that we, as painters / drawers use to make all the other colors?)
  2. 1.2 Create art that demonstrates an understanding of how your ideas relate to materials and techniques.

Share image with your classmate and explain the process of measuring and transferring images.

Drawing: Transfer the photograph to the paper with pencil and consider the colors you might use (Color Scheme) to communicate a message / emotion.

Art Foundations: Color Scheme readings and Color Scheme Notecards… that’s it…

Drawing: SnapChat… You made portraits yesterday and 2 days ago… today you are going to show me the image you would like to use and then get them printed out. We begin with pastel drawing – guided experimentation first. Photo Folder to SAVE IMAGE and ADD TO YOUR RUBRIC!

Matisse a bit toned down from yesterday… Still on the changed colors? A smidge maybe…

What were the challenges that you had with the guided use of the pastels? What are you a bit worried about with the upcoming project. How have you chosen to use the color printout and modify the composition?

While you made your color schemes… which of these cause you the most challenge to understand? Why do you think that artists choose various color schemes to create their artwork? What would your favorite color scheme be (if you had to have one)?

What was it that made you choose the image you did for our pastel drawing? What emotions / feelings do you hope that you are able to communicate with the drawing? What do you know about the Fauvists? What is the importance of using TECHNOLOGY in a responsible fashion? I know that technology like Snap Chat can be used inappropriately… make wise, responsible choices.

Technology In-Service Today! Learning a lot about the technology that is out there so that your time in the classroom is stronger.

“It’s hard to pay attention these days because of multiple affects of the information technology nowadays. You tend to develop a faster, speedier mind, but I don’t think it’s necessarily broader or smarter.” – Robert Redford

As an educator and individual who is concerned with Technology and the use of it in our classrooms, society, family, etc… I believe that it is important to stay on top of the technology that is out there. Below are the National Educational Technology Standards that are used in MY classroom and hopefully in all the classrooms in the nation.

  1. Creativity and Innovation – Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.

Art Foundations: Final day for PORTRAITS. Cut the faces out, finish the backgrounds, adhesive the portraits to the painting.

Is there pattern in this drawing? Did the artist use any contour lines in the artwork? Is there a sense of form? Have you gained any in your artwork?

  1. 3.2 apply subjects, symbols, and ideas in art and use skill to solve visual challenges

 How can you successfully or with failure, use pattern in your daily life? What are the safety techniques we discussed regarding the X-Acto Knives?

Drawing: Continue with the value grid drawing, evaluate the process, make photographs of the image (this weekend when it is done) and write your self-critique… seems like a lot.

So… let’s imagine what it might be like of we were able to gather in a GALLERY space to talk about our art. What are your biggest concerns about the discussion of the works you have completed?

  1. 2.1 form criticism about artworks that work to accomplish 2.1.2 personal or 2.1.4 other meanings

What do you feel was the MAJOR aspect of the written crit. that YOU NEED TO WORK ON? What are the challenges you think you are facing when it comes to the written portion. What do you see as the benefit of the Crit. What do you see as a downfall / challenge?

What kind of pattern best describes YOU? Why?

What forced you to think about the medium of watercolor and what it could and could not do? Where did you find challenges in the process? What was COOL about the use of the material? What was UNCOOL about it? (1, 2, 3, 5, 9).

When choosing an outfit… what are some of the INTERPRETATIONS and JUDGEMENT you use to determine what you will wear?

(2.1.4) form criticism about artwork that work to accomplish an understanding of generalized value, ratios, portrait (Interpretation and Judgement)

What have you taken from the crit. written by your classmate? What do you need to finish up for Monday’s critique? (2, 5) Computer Lab – 2 Days. Use the 4 step process and really examine the others drawings. What is Formalism, what is Imitationalism? How are we using it to critique what we are doing at this point?

What materials did these artists use to create their works of art?

GOALS:

  1. 2.3 create artworks that solve visual challenges
  2. 2.6 create multiple solutions to visual challenges that show understanding in relationships between composition and meaning of artwork.

This is a very challenging, out of the box exercise in creating artwork. What can you do to really get yourself thinking about the work at hand and how you can work to “not get voted off” unlike someone whom we shall not mention. (Second from right…)
