Much like the Advanced Painting – we are just getting started. This is going to be an assignment – an art making experience that is all about OBSERVATION and CREATING based on LOOKING. Collage, Photography, Observation from the real world and then COMPOSITION on YOUR PAPERS! Let us leave the rest of this alone as we will visit it together – we did not last week…

Art Foundations: Photography and Photoshop

We begin by talking about the ideas of what the Elements and Principles are and then we go into the larger idea about what makes for a strong photograph. What DOES make a strong photograph? COMPOSITION and CONCEPT – Think about the ENTIRE IMAGE as you are pressing the shutter button. This series of works of art are SO EASY – NO THEY ARE NOT! That is the challenge with photography… it is something that we have access to ALL THE TIME and NOW you are going to be more well versed in it. Ok BIRK – Let’s go make a good series of photographs.

There is a big difference in a snapshot and a photograph. We are going to be looking at MANY approached to PHOTGRPAHS and then we will take it to PHOTOSHOP and work out the ideas of FILTERS.

Explore and experiment with it as you please – this is going to be due along with the series.

Advanced Painting: Gouache and Theme: Difference

A NOTE TO MY FOLLOWERS and MY ARTISTS. This semester is going to be a MAJOR CHANGE to the subject matter but not the mediums. Rather than specific genres of paintings for each unit, we are going to approach the units with a common theme. This semester’s theme is going to be DIFFERENCES!

What do DIFFERENCES mean? How many different directions can one go? What is it about your work that will demonstrate and exemplify the larger topic? Can it get deep? Can it be superficial and simply enjoyable to look at? Where we are going is going to be up to you – the artist! I am excited to see where this goes.

Introduction to Digital Art and Photography: Photographs and Themes

We are going to test the ideas of PHOTOGRAPHY here and approach the idea of composition (so that you are FULLY AWARE of and are beaten over the head with a sponge filled with art knowledge). The assignment gives you YOUR VERY OWN DIRECTION and the ideas of making photographs as an assignment couldn’t BE more up your alley as a high schooler who ALWAYS carries a camera. The process will take Studio Time for RESEARCH and your OWN TIME for making the images. We will be EDITING THEM in the studio with PHOTOSHOP SO… it is MORE than just snapping a picture! Let’s GO!
