“The public is more familiar with bad design than good design. It is, in effect, conditioned to prefer bad design, because that is what it lives with. The new becomes threatening, the old reassuring.” Paul Rand
Art Foundations: Translate to the BOARD and let’s begin PAINTING!

Ladies… You have one block to come to me and let me know if this is your hand print. Not right now, but as the hour progresses. Am I angry? Yes. This is complete disrespect of the 1) school, 2) supplies, and 3) my trust. If you let me know now, things will be fine and we will move on. If I have to figure it out by the color of your painting – then we have issues.
- G: 1.1P: Use multiple approaches to begin creative endeavors.
- A: What was the strength of last times work? What are you hoping to accomplish in today’s painting?

Intro to Painting: Watercolors and Plein Air Art – Book Binding in the days of RAIN!
- G: Develop Craft: Learning to use tools, materials, artistic conventions; and learning to care for tools, materials, and space.
- A: Landscapes and simplification of the space – far off space. Looking at the work of Paul Cezanne and the works of the Post-Impressionists – What simplification do we see in the work they have created? Be aware of the breaking up of the space and shapes into a simple fashion, but also consider the ideas of adding details and specific shapes.
- G: How do you enjoy / struggle with the new ideas that you took in today?

Intro to Digital Art: How IS your ILLUSTRATION coming along?
- G: 1.2Ac: Choose from a range of materials and methods of traditional and contemporary artistic practices to plan works of art and design.
- A: How are you moving forward with the beginning of the illustration? Let’s take a few minutes to talk with your BFF in here and explain the idea behind your work, the progress you have made SO far, and the directions you are going to be making this week. What is ONE GOAL for today? You CANNOT use an image of someone else’s without making HUGE changes to it so that it is now your image and no longer theirs.
- G: Looking at the Artist Habits of Mind today, which of them are you finding that you are utilizing and please explain how. This is a time to reflect. One thing to keep in mind is the BIG PICTURE! It is harder to see the big picture when you are looking at a digital screen that is zoomed in close versus a canvas or sheet of paper as a picture plane.
