#78 Self-portraiture has a long and storied history. It is something that most artists undertake in their training. It can yield great revelations of character and technique as in Rembrandt, van Gogh, and Bacon. It will succeed or fail based on its interest as an image. Try to judge it as an image, not as a mirror. Kit White 101 Things to Learn in Art School

STUDIO ART 360: PORTRAITS and HERE WE GO!
PORTRAITS are HERE!
What do you think the PROCESS is going to be in how we DUPLICATE the image over to the canvas? What colors are you considering for the portrait?

What part of the process of tracing and transferring the image up to the canvas did you struggle with? Name 2 things that were challenging.

Check out the photos from the UWM Field Trip last week: https://goo.gl/lmmiu9
PAINTING: Making Plans? Got your Photo?
ASSIGNMENT Here – RESEARCH today!
Which direction have you decided to go in regarding the use of colors while using oil paints? What kind of mood / feeling do you hope to incorporate into the idea of your painting?

Have you decided HOW you are going to break apart the space that you are building in the painting? Are you emphasizing the new SHAPES or are you developing the LINES that you have in the portrait?

DRAWING: Fauvists and YOU!
Take a look at your previous week’s works – where did you struggle the most with the idea of the portrait? Where did you succeed the most? How do you use the ideas of chiaroscuro and color to better define the ideas of form (in the face especially)?

What was the most challenging part for you to draw that you LEARNED the most from? Why was this most difficult way to go and how do you see the LEARNING? What is most important about drawing when it comes to observation?
AP STUDIO ART: Figure Drawing
How did you struggle with the drawing from yesterday? What do you see as TWO benefits from learning how to GESTURE DRAW?

What strengths did you develop in your drawing today? What three things do you look at with your drawing and say – “Hey… that’s not so bad!”
REMEMBER -ASSIGNMENT FOR FRIDAY! THAT’S THE DUE DATE! ON YOUR OWN! NO QUESTIONS ASKED!
