#Taliesin, #PleinAir, and #HOMEWORK for July 10! See you on Monday at #CampWadewitz.

  1. REMEMBER – We are MEETING at Camp Wadewitz on Monday. Nobody will be at the school for access to the classroom. You need to get yourself to Wadewitz for the morning.
  2. HOMEWORK was assigned on Thursday for everyone… the three of you who were unable to go on the field trip… HERE is your copy of the assignment (I’ll have it with me on Monday too).
  3. A link to the photo album of our Taliesin Field Trip is HERE. PLEASE add your photos from our trip. This was a great day and I want as much visual to remember the visit. Your views are different than mine and I want to see what you saw too.

If you are ever in the Spring Green part of Wisconsin, or are just looking for a destination for the day, Taliesin is the place to go. (Not to be confused with the House on the Rock – which is a lovely place I am sure.) My plein air artists were treated to a beautiful and insightful tour of the house and studio of Mr. Wright in Taliesin as well as the school of architecture (and lunch) at the Hillside School (information about the school itself can be found HERE). Thank you to Caroline and Becky for the hospitality and warm welcome (again). Thanks also to the hardworking artists who were able to paint, draw, and get to meet some of the folks at Taliesin. As for Mr. Korb… I got two watercolors done (one is now in the collection of Effi Casey, an instructor at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture – Taliesin) a painting of her house on the Taliesin Grounds.

  • Two days left… Now that you are more aware of the use of pastels and covering larger spaces faster (large to small, general to specific) how do you feel the drawing has progressed?
    • NEXT WEEK we are going to 1) make photographs of the work we have RIGHT NOW and 2) go to the COMPUTER LAB (Laptops). Fill out the Google Form http://goo.gl/forms/3q3rPakz8m and then 3) insert images from today into the GOOGLE DOCUMENT.

TED Talks are GREAT INSPIRATIONAL TALKS that can add a great deal to your day.

Collaboration and Sketchbooks – THIS WEEK we will be having a 5 minute conversation about the collaborative PEER / SELF Evaluation regarding your sketchbooks for the week. 10 minute before class ends, we will pair up with someone NEW and Self / Peer evaluate – and then hand them in!

What is the benefit of sharing your sketchbook with your classmate? How can you learn to speak about your own sketches and ideas? How can you share your ideas with others?

Art Foundations: Continue to work on 2 point perspecitve.

Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Falling Water”. This place WAS a house and is NOW a tourist attraction. where have you seen this place before.

GOALS:

  1. 1.2 create 2 point perspective cantilevers that demonstrates an understanding of how your ideas relate to the 1.2.3 processes you use to create a cantilever.

Review with neighbors the process of drawing in 2 point perspective. Where did you have problems with your drawing from yesterday? What parts of the process are you REALLY struggling with? What are you going to HAVE to review on your own for?

This is a closed composition… why is this a closed composition? What is your drawing doing that this one is also doing? What has this artist done to successdully create the look of the crumpled paper?

GOALS:

  1. 2.2 Evaluate the effectiveness of your artwork – MID CRIT – CLASS TOGETHER – Work on texture / chiaroscuro drawings – still life (define still life).

Write out one thing that has really struck you about the drawings you saw in front of you today. BE SPECIFIC and THINK ABOUT YOUR OWN WORK ALSO. This is IMPORTANT in how you reflect on the work you do and the choices you make.

Art Foundations: Sidewalks – Review the 6 Rules of Thumb – Where are the examples posted?

How did this artist create the ILLUSION of the sidewalk being cut out and removed from the sidewalk?

What part of the process from yesterday’s roof drawings did we use today? How else MIGHT you be able to use that same technique in another aspect of the drawing?

Drawing: Share the process of the drawings – yesterdays work – first part of class with one another – ASK each other WHAT is it about their composition they enjoy and WHY.

Please take a look at how this artist has handled the negative space in the composition. How did you handle the negative space / background in your first pencil drawing? how are you going to handle it in this drawing? Do not be afraid of the DARK SIDE.

Art Foundations: Two Point Perspective – Perspective Center – Peaked Roofs

  1. 1.2 create art that demonstrates an understanding of how your ideas relate to the 1.2.3 and processes you use

Review with neighbors the process of perspective center and drawing peaked roofs. What do you have to do in order to find the perspective center of the side of the cube?

Drawing: Continue to work on the general composition of your drawing. What is the “type” of composition you are using? If the general composition is developed, then move into the specific shapes that make up the “texture.”

A lot of ideas in this drawing. Is it open or closed? This composition ALSO tells a story. What story do you think it might tell? What other “compositional” ideas do you see it having?

GOALS:

  1. (1.2) Create art that demonstrates an understanding of how your ideas relate to materials, techniques and process.
  2. 1.1 apply media, techniques, and processes with 1.1.3 an awareness so that your ideas are executed well

This is a long one: Share the thumbnails of the first part of class with one another – ASK each other WHAT is it about their composition they enjoy and WHY. (What was it about the composition that interested them before the final drawing was begun.) Have a conversation about the similarities and differences in the thumbnail and the final composition and write up 4 or 5 notes about the composition on your goals sheet.
