Drawing: Books and THUMBNAILS are happening today

2.1Ac: Through experimentation, practice, and persistence, demonstrate acquisition of skills and knowledge in a chosen art form.

Most young artists work with their FIRST idea and that’s it. What might the benefit be to begin with MORE ideas? When you sketch in your binders / homework… where do you mostly get your ideas from?  How do you define OBSERVATION?

What do you hope to come up with this year in Drawing? What do you feel you will be able to improve on regarding the skills you have currently? Make sure you bring in a book for MONDAY… otherwise you are stuck with what I bring in.

Studio Art 360: Last day to Sol LeWitt our art.

2.1P: Engage in making a work of art or design without having a preconceived plan.

What is a balance? What is a pattern? What patterns and balance are you drawn to?

AP Studio Art: 25 objects… YIKES! Sketches are DUE Monday too. Let me show you how to BLOG it.

2.2Ad: Demonstrate understanding of the importance of balancing freedom and responsibility in the use of images, materials, tools, and equipment in the creation and circulation of creative work.

What materials are you NOT using yet? Make sure that in the body of work you are making (about 1 object) you try things you are not comfortable with. How are you going to PRESENT this in the end? You need to THINK about the process and the product.

What mediums are you afraid of using. If not afraid – haven’t used because you are not used in the past?

Regarding the BLOG the View: In Chapter 1 you are going to ADD an image to the page. I will SHOW you how today so that you can do it on your own this weekend. If you DO NOT HAVE IT DONE by Monday – TALK TO ME so we can re-teach you how to upload the image. Image and a BRIEF Statement about the image… that’s it. Thanks!

Third Day in the #Studio and what have you got to show? LOTS!

Agnes Martin talks about the meaning of what art is, “Art is the concrete representation of our most subtle feelings.” In the first number of works ALL of our artists are completing we are working on the subtle feelings, the observation, the study of life… objects, lines, personal feelings and spaces. What are you doing to explore your own worlds? Go ahead – try our Sol LeWitt Exercise

Drawing: How do we begin the ideas of a stack of books – with THUMBNAILS – 5 of them.

Express: Learning to create works that convey an idea, a feeling, or a personal meaning.

Look at the thumbnails from last week and discuss with a neighbor what is working in the composition and what is not.

SIDEBAR What have you learned today about how to push / pull space with value? Perspective? What have you accomplished with pencil? What is SUCCESSFUL in your drawing?

Studio Art 360: Sol LeWitt gives us instructions and so does Mr. Korb… When you are done with the pencil… onto COLORS!

2.1P: Engage in making a work of art or design without having a preconceived plan.

What kind of balance do you find you prefer? Symmetry? Approximate Symmetry? Radial? Asymmetry?

What type of balance do you understand? We are going to be using this idea in the FIRST MAJOR ARTWORK of the year coming up NEXT WEEK. What are three reasons you chose this direction to go with?

MassMOCA Sol LeWitt: http://massmoca.org/sol-lewitt/

AP Studio Art: How is your CONCENTRATION going? Do you have a handle on the 25 objects?

2.2Ad: Demonstrate understanding of the importance of balancing freedom and responsibility in the use of images, materials, tools, and equipment in the creation and circulation of creative work.

25 parts to this weeks project. DUE in 2 Mondays… Critique then. What are you most comfortable with? Pencil, Charcoal, Pastel, or Paint? Why?.

Can you keep your studies SIMPLE and ELEGANT? This is STILL a lot of OBSERVATION and CONCENTRATION. https://i.pinimg.com/736x/5b/7c/03/5b7c035bbfce544ad045afe8580a2d45–drawing-lessons-drawing-techniques.jpg

What NEW materials have you used today? How are the LARGER ideas of the project coming along? What do you need to be doing tomorrow to make STRONG headway?

#MidWeek in the #Studio – but it’s only #Day2!

I hope that as we move along in the ART MAKING process – you are able to understand why we are creating what we are creating and how as artists we have gotten to the point we are at in contemporary art. The ideas at times seem simple but the ideas that they are based on are deep. Line, perspective, simple objects… all have a deeper history than simply the ideas of a high school art teacher working to help you push a pencil across paper. Let’s take a look at the ideas that move us toward intriguing and thought provoking art. Have you found us on Facebook? Twitter? Subscribed via Remind? Subscribed HERE?

Studio Art 360: Lines are EVERYWHERE! What artists use LINE to create the work they do? Keith Haring. Sol LeWitt. Andy Warhol. David Hockney. Alice Neel. And SO MANY MORE. We are thinking about the line as a line however.

2.1P: Engage in making a work of art or design without having a preconceived plan.

What is a balance? What is a pattern? What kinds of LINES are we using? What patterns and balance are you drawn to?

What materials have you used today? How are the projects coming along?

Let’s Look at the SYLLABUS and the YEAR. Handouts: Handbook, Syllabus, Field Trip Info, Permission Slips.

Meet in the Gallery Today. This is our LAST DAY together.

I am without power so not able to post much as a web page today but here I go. Today we are meeting in the gallery and we will go out from there. Based on the condition of the river I highly recommend being cautious of painting close to it. We will end our day in the gallery hanging rest of our artworks and turning in all our supplies. It was a true pleasure working with each and everyone of you and I look forward to seeing you in my classes in the future. And bring a friend or two or three.

#LastDay you are #OnYourOwn in #PleinAir. NOPE… MEET IN THE GALLERY.

WE WILL MEET IN THR GALLERY TODAY. Tomorrow you are out in the field on your own today.

Today we will fo about cleaning up the gallery space and setting up our exhibition. The rest of this post will roll into tomorrow…

There is NO ACCESS to the class studio – WET WAX on the floors folks. I will be checking on you as the three (3) hours roll by. BE ACTIVE and ENGAGED as you move forward. Scroll down for more information and inspiration.

Plein Air at the State Fair – Deadline is TOMORROW!

Last times I am sharing this information. I would LOVE for you to join me and the other artists at the WI State Fair during the Plein Air event! HERE you go.

Out and About in Waterford

9.1P: Establish relevant criteria in order to evaluate a work of art or collection of works. This is it folks. Last day to make work about you and for you and all chosen by you. I hope that the weather has cooperated this week. Get yourself out there and get to work.

20170705_105451

End of the week and you have a small series of works that are all tied together. Name three things that you planned on doing to make this a series of works. How did you accomplish this idea that you set out to accomplish?

  • Anchor Standard 10: Synthesize and relate knowledge and personal experiences to make art.
  • Enduring Understanding: Through art-making, people make meaning by investigating and developing awareness of perceptions, knowledge, and experiences.
  • Essential Question(s): How does engaging in creating art enrich people’s lives? How does making art attune people to their surroundings? How do people contribute to awareness and understanding of their lives and the lives of their communities through art-making?

#ThisIsIt – #FinalDays of #PleinAir #StudioArt

Week 4: Pastels and Mix it All Up

11.1Ad: Synthesize knowledge of social, cultural, historical, and personal life with art-making approaches to create meaningful works of art or design.

What have you done in the past three weeks that has interested you enough to make a small series of works about?

Create a small series of works that are based on your own personal experiences of plein air summer studio. Plan on 3 works for the final week of class and HANG A SHOW on Thursday.

Work on your own and LET ME KNOW where you are going to be.

Look at today and reflect on the experiences that you have had to create the work. What are you pleased with and where are you feeling you need work?

#Friday – Good day to be #Outside / #PleinAir – #AP Scores! Woo Hoo!

AP Studio Scores are in – I am impressed with the results.  9 / 10 3’s or better. Excellent year of art production!

HOMEWORK on MONDAY! Looking at and researching artists is an IMPORTANT way to learn about the past and develop your own skills for the future. This is not a huge task folks… it is fun research. Remember… you are in Summer Studio NOT because you WANT to earn the .25 credit but to be a stronger artist. This is how it happens.

SUMMER STUDIO WEEK 3: This was a very productive week for having only 3 days to be in studio. I am proud of the dedicated work these artists are putting forth. 3 hours is a good chunk of time to commit to the creation of artwork in the field (I am certain that some of them would like to have that during the regular studio time in the school year). These are photos from the week – Enjoy!

#Thursday and Making #Art (but… #Breakfast First).

Breakfast at Marty’s? Whose going to join me? I think it’ll be a quiet AM Breakfast (again).

Develop Craft: Learning to use tools, materials, artistic conventions; and learning to care for tools, materials, and space.

20170621_101601

What are you going to be looking at and dealing with as we look at foreground, middleground, and background? How have you improved / learned your skills in the 1) creating of art with supplies and 2) coming up with new and innovative compositions as we work outside?

Quick reflection at the end of the hours as a group. Next week we will be out on our own – wherever you want to be you will be. I’ll be scooting around on the scooter. Be ready to let me know where you’re going to be.

Remember to DO YOUR HOMEWORK!

Drawing – Let’s do the same as yesterday!

2.1Ac: Through experimentation, practice, and persistence, demonstrate acquisition of skills and knowledge in a chosen art form.

What TWO things do you want to accomplish today so you are REALLY ready for the finished product? Is there time to complete ONE MORE DRAWING? The Person Made Object shadow?

What are TWO THINGS that you see as being successful in the BEGINNING of the work you and your collaborator are doing in your respective works.

Studio Art 360 – Time to Collage

2.1P: Engage in making a work of art or design without having a preconceived plan.

Looking at your images… what are the aspects of them that are STILL interesting to you? What NO LONGER seem worthwhile?

When you look at the IDEAS you can up with on TUESDAY – what do you see SPECIFICALLY in the images and TITLE that might help you communicate that in the work?

Advanced Drawing – Hopper and Kahlo

1.2Ad: Choose from a range of materials and methods of traditional and contemporary artistic practices, following or breaking established conventions, to plan the making of multiple works of art and design based on a theme, idea, or concept.

AP Studio Art – Final Project Concentration 2.0

1.2Ad: Choose from a range of materials and methods of traditional and contemporary artistic practices, following or breaking established conventions, to plan the making of multiple works of art and design based on a theme, idea, or concept.

What was the CENTRAL IDEA of your concentration? How can you use that same idea and GROW from it? This is NOT about making a 14th or 15th work – it is using the ideas from your body of work and GROWING and MATURING – Moving forward in the process. Final work of art for your final exam critique.
