#MidWeek in the #Studio – but it’s only #Day2!

I hope that as we move along in the ART MAKING process – you are able to understand why we are creating what we are creating and how as artists we have gotten to the point we are at in contemporary art. The ideas at times seem simple but the ideas that they are based on are deep. Line, perspective, simple objects… all have a deeper history than simply the ideas of a high school art teacher working to help you push a pencil across paper. Let’s take a look at the ideas that move us toward intriguing and thought provoking art. Have you found us on Facebook? Twitter? Subscribed via Remind? Subscribed HERE?

What is Art? Anges Martin “Art is the concrete representation of our most subtle feelings.” Art In America (p.124, 1996)

Drawing: What did we start yesterday with PERSPECTIVE? Can you remember the ideas? How about some VIDEOS on the process?

2.1Ac: Through experimentation, practice, and persistence, demonstrate acquisition of skills and knowledge in a chosen art form.

Most young artists work with their FIRST idea and that’s it. What might the benefit be to begin with MORE ideas? When you sketch in your binders / homework… where do you mostly get your ideas from?  How do you define OBSERVATION?

What do you hope to come up with this year in Drawing? What do you feel you will be able to improve on regarding the skills you have currently?

Studio Art 360: Lines are EVERYWHERE! What artists use LINE to create the work they do? Keith Haring. Sol LeWitt. Andy Warhol. David Hockney. Alice Neel. And SO MANY MORE. We are thinking about the line as a line however.

2.1P: Engage in making a work of art or design without having a preconceived plan.

What is a balance? What is a pattern? What kinds of LINES are we using? What patterns and balance are you drawn to?

What challenges did you have in the ideas of drawing out a pattern – repeat the simple image over and over and over?

AP Studio Art: One object 25 times? Yes. And the more you can be interested in it as YOUR object the more interesting it is going to be.

2.2Ad: Demonstrate understanding of the importance of balancing freedom and responsibility in the use of images, materials, tools, and equipment in the creation and circulation of creative work.

What materials are you NOT using yet? Make sure that in the body of work you are making (about 1 object) you try things you are not comfortable with. How are you going to PRESENT this in the end? You need to THINK about the process and the product

Welcome back to the school year. I really look forward to all the classes and art that were going to experience together. What are 3 challenges or successes you had with your first few thumbnail drawings about the STACK of BOOKS – START with Stack of CUBES and Perspective. Huge in the center of the room? THINK COMPOSITION.

It’s Been A LONG Time since I’ve Posted…

Day 2 of In-Services are here and we are looking good. I’ve got all my seating charts set and ready to roll, assessment sheets are off to the printer, Interactive handbooks are waiting for interaction and the new classes are in my head. Classroom is straightening up, two HUGE garbage cans have been filled, projects of the past are (sadly) being recycled into the circular files). Coffee is being consumed and puppy is getting up and fed (WAY earlier than usual). I am looking forward to the 2017 – 18 year to get started and I am really looking forward to seeing my students and then getting down to work.

The Waterford Seven (11) and our final days.

Thank you to Connie and all the rest of the crew for a wonderful five-week program of art making. We studied ceramics and vessel making, impressionism as we looked at Balloon Fest, and lastly we looked at Vasily Kandinsky and his abstract work. Excellent job to all of you, I am really proud of the work you created as well as your skills and efforts. Keep making art an important part of your life. You are some of my favorite artists to work with.

The Waterford Seven (11) and Impressionism

What a WONDERFUL and INSPIRED group of artists. The ideas of Impressionism were taken full on – Dot Dot Dot was the idea and the works really represented the hard efforts and learning about Oil Pastels (nobody wanted to experiment with the soft pastels – too messy). Way to go Waterford Seven.

Final Day in Plein Air. Images and information.

Yesterday was our last day of art making.  I am going to miss working with these skilled and dedicated young women.  My pride is in their hard work, showing up to make art, and sticking to it. Gallery exhibition next week on Thursday at 1PM. Thank you ladies for your efforts.

Meet in the Gallery Today. This is our LAST DAY together. 

I am without power so not able to post much as a web page today but here I go. Today we are meeting in the gallery and we will go out from there. Based on the condition of the river I highly recommend being cautious of painting close to it. We will end our day in the gallery hanging rest of our artworks and turning in all our supplies. It was a true pleasure working with each and everyone of you and I look forward to seeing you in my classes in the future. And bring a friend or two or three.

WE WILL MEET IN THR GALLERY TODAY. Tomorrow you are out in the field on your own today. 

Today we will fo about cleaning up the gallery space and setting up our exhibition. The rest of this post will roll into tomorrow…
