#17 Drawing is About Mark Making “Every mark has a distinct character and quality.Every mark is a signature. Variations in pressure and weight is the visual equivalent of intonation. Marks, or lines, of consistent weight or thickness surrounding a figure or object will flatten the image. Tapering or breaking a line in a curve can connote a highlight or make the curve flow. Also, a tentative line will read as such. Give every mark or line authority and make sure it serves a purpose. Try to use only the marks you need.” 101 Things Learned in Art School, Kit White, 2011, MIT Press

- REMEMBER THIS FOR FRIDAY:
- A: When it comes to making AUTHENTIC Images? What do you enjoy making imagery of? You will look at 5 different professional digital artists who use the world of digital media to modify and edit their images and create research, an inspirational Google Presentation and use that to begin your fine art artwork in the realm of digital media. From here we are going to make authentic work – with the inspiration of the famous artists perhaps. DUE ON FRIDAY!5 different artists
- 3 images of each of their works
- explanation (3 – 5 sentences) about each of the artists as to WHY you enjoy their works).
- Figure or Portrait is a part of this project – you or someone you PERSONALLY KNOW.
- PHOTOGRAPHS MUST BE OF YOUR OWN CREATION – plagiarism is not acceptable. (Side note: at what point is “sampling” of other’s works acceptable? If the image is transformed enough – removed enough from it’s original source and made into your image… then can it be considered yours? This is a difficult question to answer – but how does one deal with COLLAGE and MAGAZINES any differently than the world of digital? Curious question to ponder.)
- Each artist has their own slide or series of slides in the presentation.
- List of artists at the BEGINNING of the presentation – T.O.C.
- Final Slide – YOUR THOUGHTS about where you are heading with the artwork.
- What program(s) are you planning on using?
- How will you include PHOTOGRAPHY? (Obvious and deliberate or resource and reference?)
- G: Are there any questions about the designs that out artists can answer for you now? Thank you for your time.
