AP Studio Art: DEMO of MOUNTING

Reflect: Learning to think and talk with others about an aspect of one’s work or working process, and learning to judge one’s own work and working process and the work of others.

We are going to take a BREAK from the conversation and demonstrate the mounting of work. What pieces will you choose to mount? Why? What are your 5 BEST most SUCCESSFUL works?

Mounting Artwork: https://www.framedestination.com/frame_blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/1192.jpg

Studio Art 360: Sketchbook Tuesday

2.1P: Engage in making a work of art or design without having a preconceived plan. What STRUGGLES do you have with OBSERVATION? How about VALUE?

Sketchbook Assignment Page  We are working on the SKETCHBOOKS today (Page 20) – Sketchbook Tuesday. WORK! Help your neighbor as you go along. ONE COLOR SCHEME – Let’s Look at Page 29 and REVIEW them all.

Grab a hammer, screwdriver, wrench, some sort of toolbox type of tool and draw it based on careful observation. Make sure that you spend some quality time looking at the object and then also consider the space in the background. What are you doing to fill that space? Please look at Jim Dine’s artworks about tools: https://goo.gl/xYYksN – Focus on the tool drawings.

AP Studio Art: Critique – Let’s Talk

Reflect: Learning to think and talk with others about an aspect of one’s work or working process, and learning to judge one’s own work and working process and the work of others.

We began yesterday with a few presentations – you are now on your own. Take the period to do your presentations with one another – One of you will keep track of comments / suggestions / another will keep track of time. This is all on you – real AP Level conversations that are FOCUSED and ATTENTIVE to the tasks at hand. GO!

AP Studio Art: Critique Days – I hope the extra Two days were HELPFUL

Reflect: Learning to think and talk with others about an aspect of one’s work or working process, and learning to judge one’s own work and working process and the work of others.

Grab the 4 part PRE-Critique Worksheets and (on your own pacing) go for the next 28 – 20 minutes to critique one another’s work. What response do you have regarding your studio mate’s  works – really – that can help them see things that they might not see – things that might help them continue to learn from their own works and marks? NO KID GLOVES.

Presentations to the studio from the website – answer the questions from AP and present the work that has been created. G: Nothing – reflected on work that was produced.

What are 3 things about your SKETCHBOOK that you are VERY PLEASED with? What are 3 things you WANT TO IMPROVE ON?

Color: Begin by drawing out three 7” x 4” FORMAT BOXES on three pages in your sketchbook. Divide your format box up by using 7 straight or curved lines. Do the same on the next two pages. On the first page, use one color scheme (page 29 in your handbook)of watercolor paints and fill the spaces in. On the second page, choose another color scheme and do the same. Lastly, on the third page – use whatever colors you want. When they are all dry – either define the lines with black sharpie marker (thick / thin / variety) or crayons that are of similar color scheme. When you evaluate this assignment – consider the successfulness of the works that have a specific color scheme in comparison to the one without a specific color scheme.

As artists, we are in it for the process of MAKING ART, not necessarily worrying about the finished product. How do you feel about the idea of  PROCESS versus PRODUCT?

AP Studio Art: Concentration CRITIQUE (and PLAN)

10.1Ad: Synthesize knowledge of social, cultural, historical, and personal life with art-making approaches to create meaningful works of art or design.

Well… Grab a RUBRIC IV – AP Studio Art and begin your self evaluation – AFTER you have taken a few 12 minutes to do  written evaluation of 4 works of art – make sure your written critiques use ACTIONABLE / CRITICAL / IMPROVEMENT type statements. Your sticky notes from last time were, in some cases weak and unproductive. Let’s start this critique then. Get the work up in front of us and you lead the way. KORB will sit and listen… Keep time Korb.

What are 3 things about your SKETCHBOOK that you are VERY PLEASED with? What are 3 things you WANT TO IMPROVE ON?

How much time OUTSIDE of class do you feel you are going to need for NEXT WEEKS DUE DATE?  What DAY are you going to work on that? Maybe 5 – 10 minutes PER day? What benefits would LITTLE bits of time do versus ONE BIG HUGE TIME?

Advanced Drawing: 50SoP

2.2Ad: Demonstrate understanding of the importance of balancing freedom and responsibility in the use of images, materials, tools, and equipment in the creation and circulation of creative work.

What are TWO THINGS you feel that you need some FEEDBACK on? Write that down – when I come to you – ASK.
