4 Day Week with #SPARK day on #FRIDAY – Let’s #MakeArt until then.

We have another shortened week but it is a series of FULL DAYS. I will miss two of them for a conference and then a field trip. Sorry – not really but it’ll be great to see you work without me over your shoulders. Week one was good and I am getting to know who you all are – some more than others. Think about the CHARACTER that you are putting forth and how that is affecting your work.

“Nothing in life that’s worth anything is easy.” – Barack Obama, SOTU 2014

Drawing: Still Life – Collage – Thumbnails

EXPLAIN USE OF GOALS TO ALL CLASSES and ONLINE EXPECTATION SHEET

Look a the thumbnails from last week and discuss with a neighbor what is working in the composition and what is not.

Stephanie Peters - Drawing on Book Pages: http://www.stephartist.com/uploads/6/9/5/4/6954622/7628016.jpg

What have you learned today about how to push / pull space with value? Perspective? What have you accomplished with pencil? What is SUCCESSFUL in your drawing?

Studio Art 360: Sol LeWitt and the LAST DAY of it.

2.1P: Engage in making a work of art or design without having a preconceived plan.

What is a balance? What is a pattern? What patterns and balance are you drawn to? What were your favorite designs from last week’s work with Sol LeWitt? We are EVENTUALLY going to use one of the color studies in a painting for the next artwork.

BALANCE + 1 in a bit…

What challenges did you have in the ideas of drawing out the Sol LeWitt ideas? How do you see us using this later? Can you?

AP Studio Art: Mid Crit and then MAKE ART

Reflect: Learning to think and talk with others about an aspect of one’s work or working process, and learning to judge one’s own work and working process and the work of others.

As you look at the middle of the 25 artworks – what are the hurdles that you see in front of you?  What are the hurdles that you have already jumped over?

Drawing: Books and THUMBNAILS are happening today

2.1Ac: Through experimentation, practice, and persistence, demonstrate acquisition of skills and knowledge in a chosen art form.

Most young artists work with their FIRST idea and that’s it. What might the benefit be to begin with MORE ideas? When you sketch in your binders / homework… where do you mostly get your ideas from?  How do you define OBSERVATION?

If you DO NOT HAVE IT DONE by Monday – TALK TO ME so we can re-teach you how to upload the image. Image and a BRIEF Statement about the image… that’s it. Thanks!

Third Day in the #Studio and what have you got to show? LOTS!

Agnes Martin talks about the meaning of what art is, “Art is the concrete representation of our most subtle feelings.” In the first number of works ALL of our artists are completing we are working on the subtle feelings, the observation, the study of life… objects, lines, personal feelings and spaces. What are you doing to explore your own worlds? Go ahead – try our Sol LeWitt Exercise

Drawing: How do we begin the ideas of a stack of books – with THUMBNAILS – 5 of them.

Express: Learning to create works that convey an idea, a feeling, or a personal meaning.

Look at the thumbnails from last week and discuss with a neighbor what is working in the composition and what is not.

What kind of balance do you find you prefer? Symmetry? Approximate Symmetry? Radial? Asymmetry?

What type of balance do you understand? We are going to be using this idea in the FIRST MAJOR ARTWORK of the year coming up NEXT WEEK. What are three reasons you chose this direction to go with?

MassMOCA Sol LeWitt: http://massmoca.org/sol-lewitt/

AP Studio Art: How is your CONCENTRATION going? Do you have a handle on the 25 objects?

2.2Ad: Demonstrate understanding of the importance of balancing freedom and responsibility in the use of images, materials, tools, and equipment in the creation and circulation of creative work.

25 parts to this weeks project. DUE in 2 Mondays… Critique then. What are you most comfortable with? Pencil, Charcoal, Pastel, or Paint? Why?.

Can you keep your studies SIMPLE and ELEGANT? This is STILL a lot of OBSERVATION and CONCENTRATION. https://i.pinimg.com/736x/5b/7c/03/5b7c035bbfce544ad045afe8580a2d45–drawing-lessons-drawing-techniques.jpg

What NEW materials have you used today? How are the LARGER ideas of the project coming along? What do you need to be doing tomorrow to make STRONG headway?

#MidWeek in the #Studio – but it’s only #Day2!

I hope that as we move along in the ART MAKING process – you are able to understand why we are creating what we are creating and how as artists we have gotten to the point we are at in contemporary art. The ideas at times seem simple but the ideas that they are based on are deep. Line, perspective, simple objects… all have a deeper history than simply the ideas of a high school art teacher working to help you push a pencil across paper. Let’s take a look at the ideas that move us toward intriguing and thought provoking art. Have you found us on Facebook? Twitter? Subscribed via Remind? Subscribed HERE?

Studio Art 360: Lines are EVERYWHERE! What artists use LINE to create the work they do? Keith Haring. Sol LeWitt. Andy Warhol. David Hockney. Alice Neel. And SO MANY MORE. We are thinking about the line as a line however.

2.1P: Engage in making a work of art or design without having a preconceived plan.

What is a balance? What is a pattern? What kinds of LINES are we using? What patterns and balance are you drawn to?

Let’s Look at the SYLLABUS and the YEAR. Handouts: Handbook, Syllabus, Field Trip Info, Permission Slips.

It’s Been A LONG Time since I’ve Posted…

Day 2 of In-Services are here and we are looking good. I’ve got all my seating charts set and ready to roll, assessment sheets are off to the printer, Interactive handbooks are waiting for interaction and the new classes are in my head. Classroom is straightening up, two HUGE garbage cans have been filled, projects of the past are (sadly) being recycled into the circular files). Coffee is being consumed and puppy is getting up and fed (WAY earlier than usual). I am looking forward to the 2017 – 18 year to get started and I am really looking forward to seeing my students and then getting down to work.

The Waterford Seven (11) and our final days.

Thank you to Connie and all the rest of the crew for a wonderful five-week program of art making. We studied ceramics and vessel making, impressionism as we looked at Balloon Fest, and lastly we looked at Vasily Kandinsky and his abstract work. Excellent job to all of you, I am really proud of the work you created as well as your skills and efforts. Keep making art an important part of your life. You are some of my favorite artists to work with.

Me and Russel. Nice hat!

The Waterford Seven (11) and Impressionism

What a WONDERFUL and INSPIRED group of artists. The ideas of Impressionism were taken full on – Dot Dot Dot was the idea and the works really represented the hard efforts and learning about Oil Pastels (nobody wanted to experiment with the soft pastels – too messy). Way to go Waterford Seven.

Final Day in Plein Air. Images and information.

Yesterday was our last day of art making.  I am going to miss working with these skilled and dedicated young women.  My pride is in their hard work, showing up to make art, and sticking to it. Gallery exhibition next week on Thursday at 1PM. Thank you ladies for your efforts.

Mr. Korb

Meet in the Gallery Today. This is our LAST DAY together.

I am without power so not able to post much as a web page today but here I go. Today we are meeting in the gallery and we will go out from there. Based on the condition of the river I highly recommend being cautious of painting close to it. We will end our day in the gallery hanging rest of our artworks and turning in all our supplies. It was a true pleasure working with each and everyone of you and I look forward to seeing you in my classes in the future. And bring a friend or two or three.
