NEW TIME – 7:00AM – The Weeks go by SO FAST!

#78 Self-portraiture has a long and storied history. It is something that most artists undertake in their training. It can yield great revelations of character and technique as in Rembrandt, van Gogh, and Bacon. It will succeed or fail based on its interest as an image. Try to judge it as an image, not as a mirror. Kit White 101 Things to Learn in Art School

52 Every color has an opposite, called a complement. Complementary colors sit opposite one another in the color wheel. Additionally, all colors are affected by the presence of other colors. Even the smallest presence of a complement will enhance the intensity of a color when it is present in the same visual field. The presence of red, for instance, will cause the retina to “seek” green in the other colors present, hereby enhancing all parts of the green spectrum. If you wish to intensify a color in a composition, place some of its complement nearby. This applies to all media. The effective use of color is one of the greatest tools at an artist’s disposal. – Kit White 101 Things to Learn in Art School

Using the photograph that has been glued down – resolve the rest of the picture with a friend. Let them begin the background and encourage them to DISREGARD to what was in the original background. What can YOU draw well when it comes to the portrait? Katherine Fox: “Face 3: Self-Portrait” Practice in your sketchbook! https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/9f/fb/ca/9ffbcae8de3b925577329c6197a6b51b.jpg

Practicing the FACIAL FEATURES is a lot of work. Looking at the few facial features / shapes / forms you have drawn today… what is the #1 Challenge (and WHY) you faced – no pun intended.

Using CONTEMPORARY ARTISTS as your impetus… you will need to RESEARCH a GALLERY ARTIST that is CONTEMPORARY and base your pose on their composition. This might be homework, but it’ll be woth it! http://artviaanderson.weebly.com/theory-and-practice/self-portraits-then-and-now

When you start out drawing the MOUTH… what do you start with? Why do you feel that you start with that facial feature?

52 Every color has an opposite, called a complement. Complementary colors sit opposite one another in the color wheel. Additionally, all colors are affected by the presence of other colors. Even the smallest presence of a complement will enhance the intensity of a color when it is present in the same visual field. The presence of red, for instance, will cause the retina to “seek” green in the other colors present, hereby enhancing all parts of the green spectrum. If you wish to intensify a color in a composition, place some of its complement nearby. This applies to all media. The effective use of color is one of the greatest tools at an artist’s disposal.

Self-Portrait… What are 3 things you THINK about based on your past experiences when it comes to SELF PORTRAITS? N: Building a Canvas… PROCESS.

Self Portraits (and Portraits - I want you to make an image important too you!) Suggestion... avoid your current relationships - I don't want to suggest things won't work out but... do you want to risk your relationship on a painting? https://artwithkorb.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/self-portraits-from-google-2015.png

What is the ONE big challenge you will have in the process of building a canvas? What are TWO strengths in the idea / practice of building your OWN CANVAS versus buying one from a store?

DRAWING: Portraits! Let’s get to it!

What is it about the EYES that makes it EASIEST or most DIFFICULT to draw? N: Proper facial features – begin with eyes.

AP STUDIO ART: Adventures!

We listened to EACH of the stories about ADVENTURE! from ACT TWO! and then created our own image to go along with it. We are going to write a story about it – an artist statement and then share it with our authors. Let’s PHOTOGRAPH them so we have them documented. I can’t guarantee anything will come of it, but let’s see what we see… https://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/448/adventure

How have YOU begun to understand the importance of reflection and revision?Hey guys – Here’s your assignment for THURSDAY! TYPE up a 200 works MAXIMUM page to introduce yourself and describe the work you have created – how can you help the author understand the image / artwork you created in response to their story?

51: Learn the basic principles of color. There are three primary colors: red, blue, and yellow. They are the building blocks of all other colors. The secondary colors are violet (blue and red), green (blue and yellow), and orange (red and yellow). They are composed by the equal mixture of two primaries. All other colors are referred to as tertiary, because they are mixtures of a primary and a secondary color. Kit White 101 Things to Learn in Art School

Choose a PORTION of it using the VIEWFINDERS (look at the new angles and values) and then draw it out to the best of your ability. USe NEW COLORS with the colored pencils and drawing pencils to get it started. Draw out the FORMAT BOX in your sketchbook. The ideas are all up to you. What are your thoughts about how you can draw this object?
