@TroyMadeIt on Instagram makes art all the time. My favorite summer crew – The Waterford 7+ will truly appreciate him and all he does. They make and do and create just like him. This summer they are beginning with CLAY as well.
HERE is the slideshow that I will be working with my Special Needs Artists this summer – the few weeks at least.
What did the year bring us? Here are some thoughts from some of our artists about 2022 – 2023 – Lots to look at and consider. I read them all and picked out a few gems… and some not so gem-like.
Assess yourself on the OVERALL quality of your techniques, craftsmanship, and composition (were you happy with the results of your final works?) in the final artworks you have created. Assess yourself on your completed and final works NOT your intention or concepts behind the work.
- I try my best each day to improve my habit
- I incorporated things such as color theory and texturizing to my painting. I took weeks of after school work to put minute details only i will ever remember and appreciate in the long run.
- I was happy with a lot of my final works, I fell like many of them showed the techniques we learned in class and some techniques I picked up while working in the programs on my own.
- I focus on making clean marks and I think I’m really strong at making fur textures. I also think I’m good at making compositions that are interesting. Such as the painting I am doing now, the tail acts as a line to draw your attention to the body of the cat.
- I chose this for myself because I saw myself improving and learning techniques I never knew about. It helped me grow as a painter and it improved my paintings. I used this class to test out and learn about art and painting to become better than I did before. My artwork in the past was not bad but it shows how much I developed and changed into something better.
What do you consider your strengths in this class? Why?
- I feel like my strengths were pushing myself, even if sometimes it didn’t always turn out how I wanted it to, or it was too much for me (like the chess animation. I also feel like I was good at staying focused in this class, which helped me dedicate my full attention to my projects.
- Efficiency in working in the classroom, and using the techniques required. I do this because I want to improve my art skills and want to learn more about art and it’s history.
- I think my strengths are making ideas and brainstorm what exactly I want to paint. When the project or assignment is being explained of its requirement, I already have a start on what I want to paint. I brainstorm it in my head and I usually stick to the one I think is unique and different. So, I never have struggled so much to know what to paint.
- I feel like one of my strengths is sticking with an idea and following it through. I believe I have followed my ideas for all of my projects that I have done.
- Using my time in class. I think the time in class (and even in ET) are the main reasons I’ve gotten all of my projects done. Time is given and it’s best to use the most of it.
What do you consider your weaknesses in this class? How could you improve on that?
- I don’t really like showing my paintings or work because I don’t think they are good compared to others. I can work on this by not looking at the image itself but looking deeper, like at the techniques and the use of space and unity of the painting.
- Staying focused for long periods of time. Maybe not having my phone in the room
- Finding the motivation for a project for the first few days. I’ll ditz around a bit before finding the motivation (normally due to the ditzing). I think just focusing on topics and interests helps my motivation. I probably should focus on those aspects more for more projects so I don’t get burnt out.
- I think that my weakness is perfectionism. I always get caught up one details that sometimes I overlook the bigger picture.
- I think that my biggest weakness in this class is impatience and lack of fine motor coordination which I can only get through additional practice. In almost all of my projects my art did not look as good as I wanted it to because I attempted to take the easy way out or made a mistake that destroyed what I was going for.
What is the most important thing you’ve learned in class this year? How can you use that moving forward? (3 sentences)
- I have learned how to use online programs to edit and photoshop them. this can help me if a family member needs something done. It can also help me strengthen my art.
- technique is the biggest part of this class that i will use in the future. I didnt htink sand could be used to create such an amazing texture and i will being using it in paintings for personal use in the future
- Not procrastinating. If you get behind it’s hard to get back. I think I can use this in college to get my work done better.
- The most important thing I learned in this class is how to add texture to my paint, which could add a lot to the artwork. I didn’t even think about adding sand or anything to paint! It added a lot of detail to my abstract kitty piece, even though it was just one color. I’m glad that I used it.
- Making canvases.
- I’ve learned about under-paintings, even though i didn’t use them. I’ve also learned that texture matters a lot when i did the sand on my first acrylic painting. texture matters a lot and i will use that moving forward because it adds a lot more meaning to the painting.
What is the biggest thing you need to change moving forward? Why? How can you change that? (3 sentences)
- I think I need to change my perception of art. One thing I really struggled with was seeing art that didn’t look that difficult being really famous. I think I will just keep a more open mindset to unusual things.
- Being on my phone and my drawing. I have been better and what i do is pick a playlist and then turn my phone upside down so i don’t see the screen. if i practice more i will be able to improve my drawing especially when it comes to people.
- Not thinking that my painting is good. Because it is my painting and I am the one who gets to do what I want with that painting. By really focusing on my own painting, not getting distracted by others paintings.
- As I mentioned above, I found it hard to enjoy the class because I don’t enjoy painting. The thing I need to change is the way I look at it. Even if I don’t enjoy it, at least I can practice. I think it’s very important to enjoy all your classes as much as you can.
- i need to change how i use my studio time. i need to change it because i dont use all my time as best i can and end up rushing myself. i can change this by not being on my phone and not messing around and talking.
- I think the biggest thing to change is finding my own art style. Because I am so amazed how many other people have their own techniques and painting style. I will have to experiment the different artstyle and which one I enjoy most doing it.
Thoughts about class with Mr. Korb
- Your fun but also a little bit weird in a good way
- Because Mr. Korb is really attentive to the whole class. He goes around asking about the students paintings. Asking them if they feel good about them. He also gives lots of good constructive criticism. And doesn’t favor any one student over the other. ( or at least he doesn’t shoe it)
- Mr. Korb is very kind and I enjoyed having him as a teacher. I enjoyed that we are able to talk during class as long as we get work done. It’s always so lively in class and I really enjoy that.
- To much of a cornball
- because mr korb is a good teacher and he helps me improve my paintings better. he helped me get through the class, and my paintings have more detail and meaning because he helped me with it.
- because mr korb is a good teacher and he helps me improve my paintings better. he helped me get through the class, and my paintings have more detail and meaning because he helped me with it.
And the kiddo that wasn’t so thrilled with me… That’s ok… we do hard things in Art Studio and well… you did just fine. I hope that someday you can find another place for an art studio in your life.
- I don’t really like art class enymore
- I don’t like the class so I can’t really put interest in most works
- As a teacher good job you can teach art but I just couldn’t find I way to respect you very much
- Just try to understand that people have a life and sometimes art isn’t the main priority
