As you draw
be aware of the materials you are using. When you have the opportunity to draw with a drawing pencil – you will see the differences that a drawing pencil offers in comparison to a standard pencil.
Value Grids in Pencil and Crosshatching in Pen
One inch border all the way around. 2″ tall rectangles (7″ long). 
Each of these larger rectangles will be divided into 1″ sections (except for the 3rd one – gradation). Top rectancle – PLAIN ol’ Pencil, 2nd Rectangle – DRAWING PENCILS, 3rd Rectangle – GRADATION – Chiaroscuro, 4th (skinny) rectangle – CROSSHATCHING in PEN.
